OTTO: BRIDGESTONE’S AUTONOMOUS BALL-FITTING MACHINE
OTTO: BRIDGESTONE’S AUTONOMOUS BALL-FITTING MACHINE

by John Barba for MyGolfSpy | January 24, 2022

OTTO occupies about two square feet of space and stands about 36 inches high. He works solo; a lone wolf if you will. You’ll find him sitting by himself on a driving range, at a golf show or at a demo day, minding his own business and waiting for the curious golfer. There’s no attendant or operator. He’s completely self-serve.

To use OTTO, you punch in your name and email or cell number via the touch screen. He’ll then ask you what brand and model ball you use and then you go in front of it and hit your driver. The onboard MEVO+ launch monitor reads your swing speed, ball speed, launch angle and spin rate. OTTO will then tell you—literally—your carry and total distance.

“After each swing, it yells out your driver distance,” says Mellow. “After your first drive, it might say something like. ‘Great drive, you hit that one 246. Now hit another one.’”

Once you’ve hit your three shots, OTTO crunches the numbers. Once he’s done, he’ll either text or email you a custom-fitting report and ball recommendation.

In its ongoing pursuit of adding value, FlightScope, the global leader in tracking and analyzing sports performance data, announced today the upcoming launch of its FlightScope Mevo+ Pro Package add-on option for its Mevo+ tracking radar. The FlightScope Mevo+ Pro Package is an exciting new add-on option for existing and new Mevo+ users. The Mevo+ Pro Package offers 11 additional data parameters to the 16 data parameters offered by Mevo+. Mevo+ currently retails for $1,999, and existing and new users can purchase the Mevo+ Pro Package add-on option for an additional $1,000. Especially attractive for Mevo+ owners is that after paying for the Pro Package add-on option, there are no additional annual subscription or license fees.

FlightScope’s patented Fusion Tracking technology, which had previously only been available in their top-of-the-line X3 model, will now be available for all Mevo+ units. This combination of 3D Doppler radar tracking and synchronized image processing equates to more accurate performance data, which makes it suitable for teaching professionals, players and club fitters.

FLIGHTSCOPE MEVO+ HONORED IN GOLF DIGEST EDITORS’ CHOICE AWARDS IN ‘TOP LAUNCH MONITOR’ CATEGORY
FLIGHTSCOPE MEVO+ HONORED IN GOLF DIGEST EDITORS’ CHOICE AWARDS IN ‘TOP LAUNCH MONITOR’ CATEGORY

by Ryan Parsons | April 8, 2021

Mevo+ has earned a Golf Digest Editors’ Choice Award in the “Best Launch Monitor” category, as seen online and in the latest issue of the magazine.

Golf Digest editors wrote of Mevo+: “[T]he radar-based Mevo+ mix[es] the shot metrics you need from a practice session, including launch, spin, ball speed and distance, but add[s] the game-playing feature that you might pay 10 times as much for. The Mevo+, whose technology is based on the successful Flightscope family of launch monitors and works with the Flightscope app for keeping track of performance over time, offers better outdoor functionality for the range and easily fits in your golf bag.”

Mevo+ uses 3D Doppler Tracking Radar technology to accurately measure 16 data parameters, including: carry distance, ball and club head speed, smash factor, spin rate, spin axis, spin loft, angle of attack, horizontal and vertical launch angle, lateral landing, roll and total distance, shot type, apex height and flight time. An industry first feature, FlightScope Data Margins, allows you to set minimum and maximum values for any data parameter giving you instant visual feedback with simple green and red performance data displays.

THE FLIGHTSCOPE MEVO+ NAMED ‘PRODUCT OF THE YEAR’ BY SCOREGOLF MAGAZINE

by FlightScope | January 13, 2021

((ORLANDO, FL) – FlightScope’s Mevo+ has been named “Product of the Year” in SCOREGolf’s 19th annual Younger Awards, honoring the year’s best products, companies and services in golf.

FlightScope introduced Mevo+ in early 2020 as a portable launch monitor purposefully-engineered for golfers. The favorably priced unit ($1,999) works both indoors and outdoors and accurately tracks a wide array of data, as well as providing simulations of golf courses and other gamification elements.

Younger Awards author, Rick Young, wrote of Mevo+: “A cross between its high-end X3 and entry-level Mevo, FlightScope’s Mevo+ enjoyed huge success in the personal launch monitor category this season with an array of top innovations. Along with indoor and outdoor launch monitor data and video capability, the product features five courses, 17 driving range setups (with no additional licensing fees), a mini-game and a skills combine platform that can be used to challenge fellow golfers around the globe.”

FlightScope Mevo Review 2020 – Portable & Affordable

by Denny Putsh | September 29, 2020

Most golfers are familiar with the original line of FlightScope products. They are larger tv-monitor type boxes often used by professional golfers and those with deeper pockets than humble golf bloggers have. Their immense popularity with the pros is no coincidence as they provide ultra accurate and reliable data and a long list of features to make any golf junkie drool.

The reason why you don't see every golfer hauling around his or her FlightScope X3 is that the unit itself costs around $15,000. In other words, you could chose between buying 2.5 of these launch monitors or a brand new 2020 Tesla Model 3. What I'm getting at is that the FlightScope X3 is really expensive.

Luckily, the company was willing to listen to the cries of the golf community for something a little more portable and a lot more affordable. And thus the FlightScope Mevo was born.

As more golfers resume playing this spring, their ability to learn more about their game has also expanded.

Two years ago, I reviewed FlightScope’s new Mevo personal launch monitor. This $500 cellphone-sized device uses Doppler radar to collect basic shot information. The shot data then uplinks to a tablet or smartphone for analysis.

This year, FlightScope announced an upgrade to the base Mevo with its new Mevo+ device. At the 2020 PGA Merchandise Show, I learned about the Mevo+ and its features from Tyler Burnettt, a FlightScope marketing manager.

The device records the radar data as well as video clips of each shot, noting 16 different data parameters such as angle of attack, launch angle, and spin axis, as well as more fundamental information such as club head speed and carry distance.

Our Flightscope Mevo review took place at the Golf Shack at Moor Allerton in Leeds. Flightscope says this is a product teaching pros can use but for £550 we see it more as something a serious golfer might like to invest in to monitor their numbers. How does a portable launch monitor the size of a phone stack up against Trackman? We put the Flightscope Mevo to the test. We’ve spent a lot of time monitoring data from Trackman and GC2 but haven’t really looked into the portable, consumer launch monitor market where this product fits it.

At $1999, golfers are going to demand much more from Mevo+ than the Mevo. And wow, does it ever deliver. Mevo+ provides twice as many data points as Mevo (16) including key information like total distance, roll distance, spin data, and horizontal launch angle. In short, you've got a more complete picture of what's happening to every shot you hit.

AFFORDABLE LAUNCH MONITORS: FLIGHTSCOPE MEVO MORE THAN IMPRESSES

by AmateurGolf.com | January 8, 2020

The most important thing to understand about personal launch monitors at or near the $500 price point is that these are not meant to be used for precise fitting sessions. Personal launch monitors like the Flightscope Mevo are meant to collect data on your shots to help you with gapping, distance control, and swing changes. Flightscope (and Bryson DeChambeau) preach about practicing with a purpose, and the Mevo is aimed at helping you to achieve that.

Practicing Golf Using Statistics: How and Why to do it
Practicing Golf Using Statistics: How and Why to do it

by Scratch Golf Tips - George Connelly | February 22, 2019

One of the most effective ways to bring your golf game to the next level is by looking at statistics related to your golf swing. There is only so much improvement you can make by guessing how far you can hit the ball, approximating your angle of attack and that’s not to mention that it is nearly impossible to estimate your spin rates, launch angles and many other important stats.

The reason so many golfers don’t usually improve their game using statistics in because access to them is limited and often expensive. You can go to an indoor facility and get an hour or two on a simulator with statistics given. Aside from this being expensive, you only get that one time use, with no way to expand upon this practice and continue your forward progression.

FlightScope Mevo Product Review
FlightScope Mevo Product Review

by Chicago Golf Report | November 24, 2018

If a golfer is only as good as their tools, it makes sense that you need a tool to track and measure your results. However, you’ll need more than just the numbers that make it to the scorecard. You’ll want the reasons why the golf ball is reacting the way it does from your swing. You’ll want data such as carry distance, club head speed, ball speed, smash, vertical launch angle, spin, height and flight time.

These are the numbers that help explain your swing and your score. After all, what gets measured gets improved.

To help identify my golf swing statistics, I recently tested the FlightScope mevo. It’s an easy to use launch monitor that provides all the swing data that could want.

Technology… no matter where you look it’s all around us. When you really think about it… golf and technology have really come to the forefront of the golf industry. It’s not just about golf clubs, golf balls, golf shafts and materials used to manufacture these goods. It goes so much deeper than that. Technology has done a lot when it comes to golf. It’s aided golfers in becoming longer and faster.

One of the trends that I’ve noticed in Orlando, Florida at the last few PGA Merchandise Show’s is that more and more tech gadgets are rising to the surface. From GPS units to wearable technology. However, technology to help golfers become longer and faster is useless unless you can optimize your numbers. This is where launch monitors enter the fray.

Mevo is one of golf’s hottest new tech items, and it gives players affordable access to TOUR-quality shot data. Plus, Tiger Woods’s golf ball release is set to hit shelves for a limited time in 2018.

This year’s biggest news is mainly technology and data.  These days nearly anything can be measured, whether you want it to be or not. But if you are someone who wants to know how much less your swing speed is than the pros so you know what to work on, there’s now a pocket-sized device that gives you stats on your swing, is 100 percent portable, and even shows you data on your phone.  You can even do it swing by swing and the device will superimpost stats over each one. What is it, you ask? That would be mevo, lower case m.

The Mevo is a useful practice tool for amateur golfers and represents a step forward from previous offerings on the market. It allows golfers to practice indoors or outdoors and provides club speed, ball speed, smash factor, launch angle, spin rate, carry distance and flight time.

It also has a video capture mode that will overlay swing videos with the swing data of a specific swing. It is limited in its capabilities and its accuracy, though, which golfers should expect at this price point. All in all, it’s well worth the $499 price tag if you understand what you’re getting.

For many golfers, consideration of spin rates, launch angles, and smash factor has become just as important as the answer to the question “How far did you hit that?” was in the not-too-distant past. Whether you’re a feel player, a budding gearhead, or a bona-fide technical guru, having some sense of your key statistics can improve your game and let you know what to work on—and help you monitor progress toward your goals. One of the most intriguing devices released in the past year is the Flightscope MEVO, a personal launch monitor designed for regular golfers.

It sounds too good to be true.

For just under $500, you can get a pocket-sized launch monitor from an industry leader, pair it with a free app on your smart phone, and get accurate information on clubhead speed, ball speed, launch angle, carry yardage, and four other parameters to fine-tune your game on your own time. Indoors or out. Short game through driver.

The most hotly anticipated review in MyGolfSpy history; you might think we’re talking about a new Callaway driver or a set of Mizuno irons. In reality, there’s a case to be made that the title belongs to this review of the FlightScope Mevo personal launch monitor.

And why is that?

If Mevo lives up to its billing, we’re talking about a literal pocket-sized and affordable Doppler radar-based ball tracking device produced by one of the leaders in launch monitor technology. I can already hear many of you screaming, “Take my money!”
